This is Project Count Your Blessings (or CYB for short).

You are truly loved. You are loved completely. Every single day, we are blessed to have so many things in our lives. But somehow, we seem to take the simplest things for granted.

And so this blog project was created so we can bring to mind that everyday we are loved. Everyday we are blessed to have a life so full and rich. My hope is that it creates awareness of what we have and what others don't have and that we become thankful, compassionate and generous to giving back to others.

Although this blog takes the shape of a Catholic/Christian, it is open to any faith or religion (or even those who don't subscribe to a religion or faith). Even atheists should still take the time to realize what they should be grateful for and what they have in their lives. Love transcends all people, all life, all religions.

Instructions:
1. Every single day, think of something that makes you happy, something you are thankful for, something that happened during your day, etc.
2. It can be ANY thing you like. It can be as specific as you want (names if you so wish) or as vague (general items).
3. Create some sort of creative way of expressing what you want. Eg. photograph, poem, short film, song.
4. Submit your entries at http://youaretrulyloved.tumblr.com/submit
5. The choice is yours. Let your heart decide for you. Try not to think and just let your emotions guide you.

We do scant justice and honor to our God if we want, for instance, to deny that Mahatma Gandhi was a truly great soul, a holy man who walked closely with God. Our God would be too small if he was not also the God of Gandhi: if God is one, as we believe, then he is the only God of all his people, whether they acknowledge him as such or not. God does not need us to protect him. Many of us perhaps need to have our notion of God deepened and expanded. It is often said, half in jest, that God created man in his own image and man has returned the compliment, saddling God with his own narrow prejudices and exclusivity, foibles and temperamental quirks. God remains God, whether God has worshippers or not.

What is a Missionary?

A missionary in its simplest form to me means someone with a big heart that takes action. He or she is willing to offer up so much including time, money and effort just for the sole purpose of love. A missionary knows that he or she cannot do it alone and that he/she is guided by a family of brothers and sisters and even parents to support him/her and ultimately, the missionary is guided by God. The missionary holds ideals, morals, principles and values dear to his/her heart and strives to act upon a vision of love to change life.

What is a missionary to you?

What makes a person human?

I believe it is the connection through suffering that we all face a similar destiny: death.

As a result, we develop a morality from our compassion towards one another. It connects us as a species.

Our compassion through suffering is our humanity.

When I think of God, I hear a song. It’s a song that moves me, and it has a melody and it has a groove. It has a certain rhythm. And people have heard this song for thousands and thousands of years across continents and cultures and time periods. People have heard this song and they found it captivating; and they’ve wanted to hear more.

The last thing Jesus came to do was start a new religion. He came to show us reality at its most raw. He came to show us how things are. That’s who God is. That’s how the song goes.

This song is playing all around us all the time. This song is playing everywhere. It’s written on our hearts. And everybody is playing the song.

See the question is: are you in tune?

I mean there are people who talk as if they know everything about being a Christian, and yet they can seem way out of tune. And then there are others who would say they don’t know much at all about the Christian faith and yet they can seem very in tune with the song. I met lots of people who struggle with what it means to have a relationship with God, but they haven’t lost faith and love and hope and truth and compassion and justice and generosity.

And maybe you have this sense like you have no sort relationship with God because all these things… these ideas you have about what that means. All these things that you’ve been told about what it is or what it isn’t. And an infinite massive kind of invisible God… that’s hard to get our minds around; but truth, love, grace, mercy, justice, compassion… the way that Jesus lived… I can see that. I can understand that. I can relate to that. I can play that song.

So may you come to see that the song is written on your heart, and as you live in tune with the song, in tune with the creator of universe. May you realize that you are in relationship with the living God.

It Gets Hard

My body deteriorates, my complexion peels, but my mind and my heart and strong.

God gave me imagination so can travel where my feet can’t. God gave me family and friends so I may live vicariously.

God gave me a life.

I am blessed.

Faith isn’t an act of intelligence, it’s an act of imagination. Every time you give them a new metaphor for the kingdom they see the metaphor, a mustard seed, a field, a garden, a vineyard, it’s like pointing out something to a cat—the cat looks at your finger, not at what you’re pointing at. They don’t need to understand it, they only need to believe, and they do. They imagine the kingdom as they need it to be, they don’t need to grasp it, it’s already there, they can let it be. Imagination, not intellect.

You’ve been given today. Use it. Do what you love. Do what you must. Do what you need. Do what you want. But most importantly, live.

Mississauga. How lovely it is to live in an urban, yet environmentally friendly city.

Its a mix of two worlds: the industrial, the modern, the urban citylife and the outdoors, the natural and the environment. Its a beautiful fusion. Walking or biking outside is absolutely stunning. The air is always fresh and smells very nice. In the day, you can bike or bus to South Common, enjoying the sunlight and the cool breeze. At night, you can admire the citylights and the starlights in one view.

The people are always friendly. They’ve got your back. You can trust them. Its a safe city. The taxes go directly to where they’re needed.

Sometimes I’m not so proud to rep my city because I totally forget what its done for me. I’ve grown up in one of the greatest cities in the world. Small town feel with a big city heart.

I live in Mississauga. I am blessed.

These are my grandparents. I love them beyond anything. I call them Mom and Pop.

Alot of who I am is because of my grandpa. Politics, basketball, being proud of my heritage in general. He drives me places. He offered me Coke and bread at 1am once when I snuck onto the computer doing homework. My grandma takes care of me. She cooks some of the best food evar. I recently learned how to make her famous baked macaroni.

I know sometimes I get annoyed at them. It might seem that I don’t appreciate them at all. But I love them with my whole heart. They are who I am. They are a big part of my heart.

That is why I’m going to the Philippines this August. To celebrate 50 years of love. That very same love, they have shared with me. I’m happy to be a part of their 50 year love story. And I know their story isn’t about to end soon.

I love you Mom and Pop.

I have grandparents. I am blessed.
